Story Telling by the Local Elderly
CHALLENGE:
-The local elderly are often isolated and lonely.
-They do not feel that they have an important role to play.
-They crave wanting to be useful and add value to society in some way.
ACTION:
-I spent a lot of time getting to know and understand the local elderly. Often sharing meals and playing checkers with them.
-I then build storytelling experiences with them for the public.
INTENTION:
-I decided to develop a series of storytelling series by the local Chinese elderly in Shanghai.
OUTCOME & LEARNINGS:
-We partnered up with several co-working spaces to host these storytellings.
-I learnt that it is not always easy to earn the trust of the local elderly, but once you get there, it’s magical! There is so much to learn about the creative process from them.
